When I photographed dawn reflections in the window of the mill house where we were staying, I had no idea what we would discover as we began to explore Brittany.
I call this menhir, or stone man, elephant priest. Over 3000 menhirs remain of estimated 6000 standing stones in the Alignements de Carnac near the coast of Brittany in northeast France. Many were removed or buried over centuries for practical, political and religious reasons until France formally protected its megalithic sites.
