Coal mining has been a dominant resource industry in and around Crowsnest Pass in the Canadian Rockies and southern BC and Alberta for over a century. Nearby is Waterton Glacier International Peace Park which straddles the Canada US border. No more divergent vision and purpose for land use could be found. This mine is on the north side of Flathead Pass. The watershed which flows south to the USA is among the purest in the world. Formerly an international border crossing, this wild valley is home to a diverse cross section of aquatic, animal and plant species.
