The County of Paintearth near Forestberg Alberta has a layered history of sacred and practical. It's rich Aboriginal history contrasts with the resource industries which now exploit its rich mineral resources. Paintearth coal mine and nearby coal operated Coronation Dam on the Battle River attest to its usefulness and its exploitation. This was once buffalo country with wildlife grazing a rich water meadow.
